Matt Bolick Interview
" We are ALL Negan"
Hello Matt Bolick and thank you for your time for the Fans of The Walking Dead.
- Matt , When was the time you knew you wanted to be an actor?
I have always been an entertainer, even as a young child I wanted to be center of attention. I Jr. High and High school I was in drama club and played many roles in stage productions
- You worked in one of my Favorite series. "The Walking Dead" How did you get cast ?
It was honestly the first time I had ever considered TV acting. A friend in the business sent me the casting call because they were looking for bikers with their own bikes. I didn't know what show it was for. Casting was very hush hush for the show back then. I got an Email on a sunday evening telling me I was cast for The Walking Dead, and to be in Atlanta the next day for a fitting. I was floored!
- You played an Savior ,thats right?
That's correct. The 8 of us started calling ourselves the "First Saviors''.
- Working in The Walking Dead, What is the first thing you remember when you look back on set?
There are tons of memories, especially the actual explosion when they blew up the bikes. A truck showed up with dummies that looked like each of us and it was so weird seeing that. Norman Reedus was very cool and would hang out and talk about riding bikes with us between takes.
- When you look back Do you have any interesting behind-the-scenes stories you can share?
There was plenty of down time as they set up for different shots on our first day. We were having a conversation among ourselves. In the comic, one person survives the explosion and returns to tell Negan what had happened. The 8 of us were curious who that would be. One of the PAs walked by and hearing the conversation said " Don't get your hopes up. you all die"
- With a role in TWD/FTWD comes a Big Fan Community, what are your first The Walking
Dead fan experiences?
Fans came out of the woodwork once it aired. We were allowed to order 8X10s at the end of the season, and I was getting calls to make appearances at conventions. Being able to meet such excited fans was amazing. It didn't matter that we were just background actors. At the time, it was very hard to meet the principal actors, so, meeting anyone who was on the show was like striking gold for some fans.
- Never say never in the TWD Universe. Will you come back ,maybe for an Tales of TWD Episode or Dead City?
I would always be down for more TWD exposure
- You also work in 2 Jumanji Movies with Dwayne The Rock Johnson. Something interesting stories you can share with us?
Simply being around The Rock, Kevin Hart and Jack Black was a gift. I will always cherish those 8 weeks on set watching and learning from some of the best in the business
- What will we see next from you? Any projects/movies/series?
I run my own DJ company, so that takes up most of my time. I played a biker in a Rob Lowe movie last year called Dog Gone. If something comes along that fits right I will be down for it.
I worked on the HBO show Righteous Gemstones, and Danny ( creator, producer, director and actor) was amazing to work for. I would work for him anytime.
- Is there any dream role or actor/actress you would love to work in the future?
I have a man crush on Jason Momoa. I would LOVE to work on a project with him.
- Is there anything else you would like to let TWD Fans and your fans know?
I appreciate all the love and support over the years. There is no telling what might pop up for me in the future. " We are ALL Negan"
- Thank you for being my guest Matt Bolick and best wishes for the future. I hope to see you one day in Germany.
