Darian Fisher Interview
It was an amazing 6 years working on the show
- Hello Darian Fisher and thank you for your time for the Fans of The Walking Dead.
- Darian , When was the time you know you want to be an actor?
I've always loved to entertain people throughout my childhood. I never really took it serious living in Georgia since I believed you had to be in California if you really wanted to make it as an actor. But when the film/tv industry started to blow up in Atlanta in the mid 2010s due to all the tax incentives, there were so many opportunities for us living in the Southeast. I started to do background/extra work on various sets back in 2014 and fell in love with it and I knew this is what I wanted to pursue full time if the opportunities arose.
- You worked in one of my Favorite series. "The Walking Dead" How did you get cast ?
I had been working as a background actor for about a year and been cast many times by the company who cast all the background/walker roles for TWD. Since they knew me very well, they asked if I was interested in going to the open casting call in Senoia for Season 6 of TWD. I definitely jumped on that opportunity to be one of lucky ones to try out for one of the "hero" walker slots. I made it on the Season 6 as a "mid-walker" as they called those who had light prosthetics applied and after a few episodes, I was made into one of the regular "hero walkers".
- Which role did you play in the series?
For most of my 6 seasons on the show, I played a hero walker and probably recorded over 30 deaths by a majority of the main actors. I also got the privilege to have a scripted named human role in Season 6 as RIchards from Alexandria. It was an absolutely amazing experience which afforded me one of the most epic death seasons in the series to date, and had a stunt double who played out my death as he was set on fire and falling off the wall of Alexandria. Just being on set and watching it all transpire was one of the most memorable experiences of my acting career.
- How did your family react when they found out that you were playing in The Walking Dead Universe?
My family were never big into the whole TWD genre or hype, but they were happy for me and never missed an episode where I was featured in.
- With a role in TWD/FTWD comes a Big Fan Community, what are your first The Walking
Dead fan experiences?
I never attended any of the "Cons" but I was involved in some Walking Dead FB group. I do remember the hype of Season 6 in Senoia near the studio where they would have dozens of fans lining the streets with their signs trying to get a sneak peak or photo of some of the stars of the show. There were a few times where I was stationed in Base Camp waiting to go to set where the crew and PAs had to shield us from the eyes of the fans. They got very creative using umbrellas and large raincoats to make sure our appearances wouldn't be discovered by the fans outside. I was also blessed enough to be featured on a Topps trading card as a "window walker" in Season 6 and fans would correspond wanting a signed card or photo.
- Darian , you worked in many other series and Movies. Whats your peronla highlight so far?
There are just so many highlights and memories, but I would have to say the greatest highlight of setlife would have to be the time I was on set of the movie, The Mule, directed by the legendary Clint Eastwood. Prior to acting, I was a police officer for almost 10 years and also had a lot of experience working on various sets as a police officer/detective. The crew was aware of my expertise in the area of police work, and while on the set of The Mule. The Assistant Director asked me if I could help Mr. Eastwood with the technical directing for a scene where myself and another actor were supposed to arrest a suspect while using tasers to assist. I basically was telling Mr. Eastwood the proper tactical procedures when it comes to using a taser and arresting someone and based my advice on performing out the scene for the movie. It was definitely a highlight for almost anyone in the entertainment industry to be able to help one of the most legendary actors/directors in directing a scene.
- Are you currently working on anything interesting Movie or Series outside "The Walking Dead" that you can reveal?
Right now, there is nothing in the works for me but I am always auditioning for various projects and commercials so you never know when I will book my next big project. As an actor, you know that it takes a lot of grind and hustle and perseverance.
- Is there any dream role or actor/actress you would loved to work in the future?
I am a huge horror fan and whenever I can be part of some projects in that genre, I would love to jump on them. I think if there is one character which I would love to play, it would have to be the Norman Bates type of character. People always say I have that "nice guy next door vibe" but with a sinister twist and it would be such a fun character to play. The closest I got to it was when I played a similar type of character in the movie, The Trinket Box, which can be scene on Tubi. If you haven't seen, you need to go watch it as I played such a fun role as a creepy Real Estate Agent in the film.
- Is there anything else you would like to let TWD Fans and your fans know?
I just want to thank everyone for the support over the years and TWD fans are the best in the world. It was an amazing 6 years working on the show and the memories I made with so many actors and the fun times I had with Norman Reedus on set will always be some of the highlights of my time on the amazing show.
- Thank you being my guest Darian Fisher and best wishes for the future. I hope to see you one day in Germany.
