Keith Brooks Interview
Norman Reedus taught me some lessons about how to beat Candy Crush
- Hello Keith Brooks and thank you for your time for the Fans of The Walking Dead.
Thank you for reaching out!
- Keith , When was the time you know you want to be an actor?
Ever since I was a kid. I've always loved movies. When I was young I knew I wanted to be an actor, but at the time there was nothing like the Walking Dead or any kind of film industry where I was from. So I went to school for theatre and fell in love with it and the craft more and more as years progressed. Eventually I went to school and came back home, and while I had been gone the show "The Walking Dead" and the industry had kind of started growing in my backyard. So it was just very fortuitous for me.
- You worked in two of my Favorite series. "The Walking Dead". How did you get cast?
My agent got me an audition. That led to about four different callbacks, all self taped with fake sides; meaning I was reading a script that was never intended to be shot but just gave them an idea of how I could act.
- Which role did you play in the series?
I play a character named Dan. Also known as "Deserves it Dan." I'm one of the claimers who tries to sexually assault Carl and meets his demise at the hands of a very upset Rick.
- Working in TWD Universe, What is the first what you remember when you look back on set?
The first time I went to set for costume and hair tests. Everyone was so nice and kind and friendly. Steven Yeun stopped everything he was doing to introduce himself to me, Norman Reedus taught me some lessons about how to beat Candy Crush. Everyone was just so sweet and friendly. It was a very welcoming place.
- What do you think has been the key to this show’s success and why have people responded to it like they have?
I think it's a dark soap opera. It's a cautionary tale about how bad people can be, and whether we're aware of that or not, we relate to it on a subconscious level. I think through science fiction and horror we can have the opportunity to discuss some of the negative aspects of humanity and we feel safer to discuss them because it's easier to remind ourselves this is a fictional setting. So The Walking Dead provides an analysis of humans in times of need and their worst proclivities, but we can pretend its just a show about zombies and not feel uncomfortable while we dissect our own behavior.
- With a role in TWD Universe comes a Big Fan Community, what are your first The Walking
Dead fan experiences?
The first convention I ever did was mostly great. But about halfway through the first day a young - probably like twelve year old- girl came up and spit in my face. Then I looked over the crowd and I saw her mother running towards us, and I thought "Oh the mom's gonna reprimand her daughter." But instead she grabbed her daughter and told me "How dare you do that to Carl!" and stormed off. It was kind of insane. There are so many people out there who just love this show and it means so much to them, and then there's a smaller group who take it WAY too seriously. But either way, it's great to see how it effects people. Every artist wants to be a part of something that moves people in some regard. I'm very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be a part of something that people hold so dear.
Editor's note
Hate the character. Respect the actor.
- Keith , you work in Chris Kay´s "Renfield". How was it work with Nicolas Cage and what caracter did you play?
Yeah! I worked with Chris McKay on Renfield and his movie prior called The Tomorrow War. He's the coolest guy in the world. And Renfield was also created by Robert Kirkman, the same guy who made The Walking Dead. In it I play a character named Doug. Doug and one of his buddies, played by Josh Mikel (Jared from the Walking Dead) are just drug dealers basically who get brutally murdered. Nic was amazing. He's such a larger than life person and you're kind of just in awe of him when you're around him.
- 2024 you work as Ghost River in the series "Manhunt". Something you can share with us about this series?
Absolutely. The show is about the assassination of the American President Abraham Lincoln and tracking down his killer. I play someone that may or may not have helped the assassin. And Josh Mikel from the Walking Dead is in that show too! I'm just gonna advertise all of Josh's stuff. Lol.
- You worked in so many movies and series. What your personal Highlight so far?
I think they all have their great moments. I"m just happy and proud that I get to do something I love for a living. I'm very luck in that way.
- Are you currently working on anything interesting Movie or Series outside "The Walking Dead" that you can reveal?
A couple of things, some I can't talk about. One that I probably can is a comedy film that will be out in 2025 called The Naked Gun. It's a remake of an old American comedy, but this one stars Liam Neeson. I'm in a blink and you'll miss it sort of role, but it was a lot of fun and I had a blast on that one. And I think I can say I'm in it. I don't know. Lol.
- Is there any dream role or actor/actress you would loved to work in the future?
There are so many! I love the work of someone like Vincent D'Onofforio or Neve Campbell or Rachel McAdams or just...so many people! I'm just happy to work.
- Is there anything else you would like to let TWD Fans and your fans know?
I think just how much I, and the entire cast and crew, appreciate you. Thank you for your support. Thanks for watching and caring about the show or shows or anything like that.
- Thank you being my guest Keith Brooks and best wishes for the future. I hope to see you one day in Germany.
Vielen Dank für das Interview! Tschüss
