K.D. O´Hair Interview
I had been manifesting to be on the show since I got serious about Film/T.V. back in 2013
- Hello K.D. O'Hair and thank you for your time for the Fans of The Walking Dead.
Of course, thanks for having me! Sorry for the delay. Guess it's been a while since you asked me to do this. Depression is weird. Thanks for not giving up on me.
- When was the time you knew you wanted to be an actress?
I started acting when I was 5. I was living in Lubbock, TX and was obsessed with the 1982 Carol Burnett version of Annie and the animated movie Aladdin had just come out. I performed the Genie monologue over and over when he first busts out the lamp and always sang the Annie songs at the top of my lungs. Well the local college, Texas Tech University, was casting for their production of Annie and my mother, a high school actor herself, thought it would be a new hobby for me. Sure enough, I auditioned and got cast as the youngest orphan, Molly, and I fell hard for acting. At that point, it was because I was attention-starved but as I started doing more and more, I truly fell in love with the craft itself and have never looked back.
- You worked in one of my Favorite series. "The Walking Dead" How did you get cast ?
Haha. I get this question a lot. I'm always amused as to what people think I'm gonna say...something scandalous? That I was a nepo baby? Nah...I have an agent and auditioned as I do for every project as most hard working actors. A WD fan myself, I had been manifesting to be on the show since I got serious about Film/T.V. back in 2013. It took nearly 10 years to get on the damn show, but it finally happened the last season. You can't see my face as I am playing a Trooper, but you know, the Universe can be real cheeky.
- Which characters did you play in the series?
I played Trooper 301 of Season 11, Episode 21, called Outpost 22.
- Working on The Walking Dead, what is the first thing you remember when you look back on set?
Well, that's hard to pick man. I was directed by Greg Nicotero which was so surreal. He's a hero of mine. I remembered he was kind but to the point (a trait I deeply respect) and very detail-oriented as to his Walkers, which I was weirdly warned about before going to set. I loved it. Seeing a god attentive to his creations always; they are the main characters to him. He's a master and to be an extra/featured extra getting that direct attention on set from him as a Walker. It's a rare thing and one of those things that can make a career. It instills a special sort of flame in you to keep going and keep pursuing bigger. I also got to talk to THE Melissa McBride, my favorite character. She's such a badass onscreen and off. Oh! Also, I got mistaken for a stunt person! It made me feel so cool. It was because I was hanging with some incredible stunt legends on set, including Dena Sodano (I worship her) and Dean Grimes who showed me some gnarly videos of him breaking both of his legs on separate takes jumping out of a 2 story barn in a horror movie he did. He was so stoked on it. Haha, lots of good memories.
- When you look back Do you have any interesting behind-the-scenes stories you can share?
Oh no, refer to above.
- With a role in TWD/FTWD comes a Big Fan Community, what are your first The Walking Dead fan experiences?
You know, because I was covered literally head to toe, I don't get many fan experiences unfortunately, but my friends and those who know think it's pretty cool. That's enough for me. For now! Muah ha ha ha
- Never say never in the TWD Universe. Will you come back ,maybe for an Tales of TWD Episode or Dead City?
I believe my agent has said in so many words that because I was unrecognizable in my episode, that if the opportunity arises, I might get a go at another role in one of the other shows. I've definitely auditioned. Keep your fingies crossed! I did get at least mentioned or featured in a Talking Dead episode which was unexpected and very much appreciated.
- K.D., you also work in the Top Series "Cobra Kai", that's right?
I have yes. Again only one episode, however much I dreamed up in my head about being a series regular as Stingray's gf working as a secretary for the dojo after that. Mmmmmm...one can dream. I wanted to be an equivalent to Janine Melnitz in Ghostbusters, "I've quit better jobs than this...[answers phone] Ghostbusters, whaddya want?!" But yes, another dream come true. My brother and I lived on the Karate Kid movies from the 80s, so this was an incredible opportunity. Many boyfriends since that time have approved. I was in Season 2 Episode 9 when it was still a YouTube series. Working with Paul Hauser is quite literally a trip. That dude is beyond funny. My favorite memories are sitting in video village with everyone else seeing him improvise a scene a million different ways and all of us covering our mouths as to not ruin the shot. We were laughing so hard watching him try to open a sliding glass door with Edward 40Hands.
- You also work in "Chicago Med", "Chicago PD" , "Hightown" , "Sweet Magnolias" and many more. What's your personal Highlight so far?
Oh man...another hard one. I've been very lucky. Hightown was incredible. It was a set completely female-run and you can tell. It was such a welcoming atmosphere. I was supposed to be recurring but you know, writing can change several times over a season. I'm just glad I got to play such a fun character amongst incredibly talented women in front and behind the scenes. Chicago Med was my first Guest Star and my god, what a trip. Oliver Platt I have watched since I was a kid. So to find out he is a Capricorn like me and see him arrive on set with a misbuttoned vest and his castmates playfully make fun and him take it in stride and laugh at himself. I love working with actors I have respected and watched for years who don't take themselves too seriously. It's a treat. I wanna be that way too. Sweet Magnolias, how cool to meet William Mark McCullough before that killer started really taking off.
- What will we see next from you? Any projects/movies/series?
April 3! The Bondsman with Kevin Bacon on Amazon Prime. I'm playing Trish the waitress at the featured restaurant, The Boxcar. I'm supposed to be in 3 episodes, so we'll see if the Editing gods are kind to me. It was so fun. I'm excited to watch the show. It's definitely my kind of genre. Also, my 2nd project with Kevin Bacon. He rules, such a good man.
- Is there any dream role or actor/actress you would love to work in the future?
Duuuuuddeeeee, I would absolutely KILL to be in the next Constantine movie with Keanu Reeves. I see myself playing the new Chaz, the Taxi driver wannabe Constantine. I am manifesting that shit more than paying my rent. But if it happened, I wouldn't have to worry about rent...so, all's taken care of. Honestly, I think Constantine is the movie I've seen the most. I just bought it finally the other day because I have rented it so many times. Dear god, what a good fucking movie. Best Devil ever by Peter Stormare and Tilda Swinton?! Masters!
- Is there anything else you would like to let TWD Fans and your fans know?
Thanks so much for your support and for watching, making a creative project a phenomena! We have so much power as the masses, as the people. We need to always remember this not only for pretend worlds, but the one we're in currently. We have more power than we know. Love each other, take care of each other, defend those who cannot defend themselves to the death. We are so much more than hate and ignorance. Stand up and Act!
- Thank you for being my guest K.D. O'Hair and best wishes for the future. I hope to see you one day in Germany.
That would be lovely. Thanks so much for not giving up on me! I appreciate you approaching me for this. It is an honor. This will not be the last you hear of me, only the beginning! Muah ha ha ha ha. You take care too!
