Dee Tails Interview
When I’m on set I’m not an actor, I’m a fan contributing to the continued story telling of Star Wars

- Thank you Dee Tails for your time for the Fans.

- Ha of course, I’m a fan too!

- When was the time you knew you wanted to be an actor?

- When I was 10 years old I was amazed that I could remember dialogue even from my first nativity play Ha playing one of the three wise men. When I reached middle school here in the U.K I landed the role of the Genie of the Lamp in our school production of Aladdin. The comedy I brought to the role helped me to remember my lines even when minutes before I’d have a mini panic attack not remembering a single line Ha I knew then that this was what I wanted to do.

- Among other things, you played in "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" Cratinus. Were you a Star Wars fan before you got cast?

- Yes, most definitely. I had the Panini Sticker books all completed, I had one action figure and had watched the making of on a Behind The Scenes series which was showing on Saturday mornings, which came on an hour or two after Sesame Street, all this before even seeing the movies. It was while I was watching the Behind The Scenes series that I spotted Jim Henson then Frank Oz on the set of a movie with a swamp in it. Even as a young kid loving Sesame Street and The Muppet Show even I knew who these guys were. Then I spotted Kermit and Miss Piggy followed by a green looking Muppet with long elongated ears who would be revealed as Yoda. If it wasn’t my love for the Muppets I don’t know If I would’ve have ended up being as big of fan as I am now. I also didn’t start collecting action figures until a few years after all three of the first movies had come out and then watched them for the first time on VHS. I later went on to become a bigger fan of George’s story and documentaries on how he got those movies made and the adversity he faced, for us to have the legacy of Star Wars we have today.

- Dee Tails you also work in "Solo A Star Wars Story "(Quay Tolsite) , "Rogue One"(L-1) and "Acolyte"(Senator Isedwa Chuwant).
Could you share some funny, remarkable, weird stories regarding the filming of your scenes ?

- HaHa I loved playing Quay Tolsite!!
While filming the computer room scene Ron Howard called me over to the monitors to watch my entrance and while I was watching my big entrance into the room I suddenly noticed a Gonk Droid walking out of the wall compartment and totally forgot I was meant to checking my performance Ha

- I have so much love for L-1.
while waiting for the camera crew to set up I got to hang out with the kids, staying in character as the droid. We were then separated to perform in different areas for a few takes before they were taken on a break. I was still wandering around in costume as It was incredibly comfortable to wear when the kids were brought back to set, their carer spotted me and said ‘look, to go and play with droid friend’ and as they came running over Gareth Edwards gorilla filming caught the moment.

- The one other thing I’ll mention about Solo was while Emilia, Phoebe and myself were waiting for a rehearsal they both started singing an East 17 song (a U.K boy band) I joined in then mentioned I toured with them years ago, suddenly they both began interrogating me until I told them I was in a boy band called MN8 that’s when they both started singing ‘I’ve got a little something for ya’ thankfully I had my Quay Tolsite head on so they couldn’t see my amazement Ha.

– With a role in Star Wars comes a Big Fan Community, what are your first star wars fan experiences?
- To be honest I knew there were other Star Wars fans out there like me but I never much about it until my first role in The Force Awakens, then all at once I met Cosplayers, spoke to podcasters all over the world and met the most warm hearted fans after a signature and best of all I got to share with them what it’s like working on those projects, the way I wished I could’ve gotten to speak to Jim Henson or anyone who worked on the originals and prequels.
When I’m on set I’m not an actor, I’m a fan contributing to the continued story telling of Star Wars.

- Between Star Wars you worrked in "Batman Begins" , "Willow the Series" and some other projects. Is there something special you would love to do in the future?

- Ohhh, I love the world of fantasy and fairy tale, whether that be vintage or futuristic. I love writing them myself just for my own amusement. I never expected to ever be in Star Wars and yet it has been yet another foot note in my career to be grateful for, I can’t to see what my next gratitude will be for Ha

- Thank you for your time Dee Tails! Let’s end this interview with some words for the fans?
- It’s been my greatest honour as a fan to dip my toe into the world of Star Wars and film making as a whole for just over 10 years now. I’ve learnt so much and seen so many things that can only be photographed in the mind to later some day share the experience with a heart felt fan or two it’s been amazing.

- Thank you and i hope to see you some day on a German Star Wars Convention.
- Last year I was at San Diego Comic Con doing two talks and taking part in a panel and continuing this year doing more conventions and signings.
I’ve met quite a few German Star Wars fans Already and Cosplayers they’ve told me the same thing Ha So fingers crossed I’ll get to come to Germany one day soon and hopefully get to meet you and many more Star Wars fans over there.
